Interview with Bozhko L.L.,Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of RII.
“Universities of the third age” operate practically all over the world and this movement is already several decades old. The main goal of the “Universities of the third age” is to enable older people to acquire new knowledge and skills, gain self-confidence and actively participate in the social life of the city.
In order to realise the “third mission”, the “Universities of the third age”opened its doors in Rudny Industrial Institute in November 2021.
– What is the programme of work of “Universities of the third age” in RII?
– As part of the work of the “Universities of the third age”, the institute offered elderly people a portfolio of educational programmes, including courses on studying modern IT-technologies, foreign languages, housing and utilities, improving legal and financial literacy.
– What are the prospects for development?
– In the future, we will provide low-mobility citizens of retirement age and disability pensioners who, due to health limitations, cannot actively participate in face-to-face educational courses with free access to online educational courses, which are hosted on the Institute’s own online platform. The format of the online courses includes a lot of visual information, assignments for independent work, including tests, creative tasks and peer evaluation exercises.
In addition, we have prepared a new course “Legal Knowledge in Everyday Life”, which aims to ensure social protection of older people by increasing their legal literacy, providing opportunities for personal development and improving the quality of everyday life. The course programme includes issues of civil, housing, land law, consumer protection, tax and pension relations, as well as the specifics of drafting procedural and other documents and applying to state authorities and courts.
