SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
Main research activities carried out at the Departments are:
- implementation of basic and applied research projects;
- protection of intellectual property and copyright of researchers and craftsmen;
- innovations;
- research work of doctoral students, graduates, post-graduate students;
- research work of undergraduate students;
Research activity at the Institute is coordinated by the Scientific and Technical Council, vice-rector for academic affairs and research, and Office of Science, International relations, and Quality Management.
Prior areas of research are:
- improvement of the efficiency of mining operations;
- improvement of the efficiency of civil engineering;
- electric power supply and automation of technological processes and production;
- economic problems at enterprises and organizations of the region;
- environmental problems in development of industrial facilities;
- design, technology and design of ready-made garments;
- study of issues of higher education institutions;
- study of social problems.
Long-term targets in research areas and problems are developed in compliance with the Development Strategy of the Institute.
Research Activity Plan is developed annually.
Fundamental and applied researches are conducted on the initiative topics (of the Departments), within the State Order (grant funding, program-targeted funding), by the order of private companies (economic agreements).
The number of funded research projects is growing each year.

During the period from 2012 to 2015 the number of publications by the researchers of the Institute in international ranking journals has increased.

Due to inventive activity of teachers the Institute has a certain potential of intellectual property. During the period from 2012 to 2015 it obtained 32 documents of title, including 6 patents, 15 innovative patents for inventions, 1 patent for utility model, 10 certificates of state registration of rights to the object of copyright.
Rudny Industrial Institute pays special attention to support and promotion of research activity of teachers. In order to establish encouraging bonuses the Institute introduced a method of ranking estimation of activity of teachers, employers of Departments and other sub-divisions of the Institute, where 30% of ranking points are awarded for research activity.

STUDENT RESEARCH
Research activity of students is an integral part of training in higher education institution.
Students are actively involved in research projects, scientific conferences, seminars, round tables,. They also publish their research results in scientific journals and proceedings, participate in scientific competitions, Olympiads, undergo scientific training.
Being engaged in research activity, students have opportunity not only to keep abreast of the most current research, but also to make their own contribution to development of a particular branch of science.
One of the most common forms of research activity of students is join scientific or design-engineering circles.

Results obtained during research activity are used by students to participate in research competitions (international and national), and are discussed at various scientific events.
